Hands hierarchy in Poker

September 24th, 2008

The royal flush is rated as the highest ranking standard poker hand for being an ace-high straight flush and the blend of the Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 suffice it. The straight flush will consist of five cards in a row and all must be of the same suit. In case of two or more players comprising straight flushes, this leads to a situation where hands get compared with the help of their highest card. Only by having the knowledge of the highest ranked hands, one can easily know what beats what in poker.

Quads (A four of a kind) comprise four cards of one rank, and this also means four cards with the same number along with another card. Though it’s better than a full house, however fetches far less value than a straight flush. The full house is the next best hand with three matching cards of one rank, while two of another rank. If among the players, each comprises a full house, the one with three cards with the highest number will win.

A flush follows the next which has five cards. The cards of a flush will not be in rank sequence but comprise the same suit. If each player gets a flush then the highest ranking card easily forms the basis for comparison. The straight just gets ranked below the flush with five cards in rank sequence, however now having the same suit.

The straight thus trounces the three of a kind poker hand which is fairly alike to the full house, while the other two cards do not encompass the similar numbers. On the other hand, the two pair boasts of two diverse pairs of cards by way of the similar number and one other card. The high card is the lowest-ranked hand with almost no pairs, no sequence and no similar suits, and gets beaten by all other hands.
